It was known as “Padmanagar” during the Satya Yuga, “Trikantak” during the Treta Yuga, “Janasthana” during the Dvapara Yuga, and finally “Navashikh” or “Nashik” during the Kali Yuga.  Saptashrungi Mata Mandir, located near Nanduri village in Maharashtra, has a rich and fascinating history deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Saptashrungi, also known as Goddess Bhagwati or Jagadamba. The name “Saptashrungi” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Sapta,” meaning seven, and “Shrungi,” meaning peaks, referring to the seven hills that surround the temple.

It was constructed by the third Peshwa Balaji Bajirao (1740–1761) on the site of an old temple. Trimbakeshwar Temple is a religious center with one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The city of Trimbakeshwar is located at the foot of Brahamagiri Hill, the height of which is 3000 feet above sea level.

This temple is supposed to stand on the spot where Lord Ram lived during his exile. It was built in 1782 by Sardar Rangrao Odhekar on the site of an old wooden temple. The work is said to have lasted twelve years, with 2000 people being daily employed. It is one of the finest modern temples in western India.
